Nader Shah's Campaign in Dagestan (1741–1743) After consolidating his power and achieving significant victories in Persia and India, Nader Shah launched a military campaign into Dagestan with the aim of subjugating the Caucasian tribes, particularly the Lezgins and Avars, and ending their resistance to his rule. However, the rugged mountainous terrain, coupled with the local fighters' reliance on ambushes and guerrilla warfare, made the campaign extremely difficult. Despite the Afshar army's numerical and military superiority, it was unable to establish lasting control over Dagestan and suffered heavy losses in men and equipment.
