my "promise" ring was my mom's old wedding ring that had a really ugly setting that was the tiniest chip of a diamond in a high setting. My then boyfriend, now ex husband who was a grown adult man while I was only a teenager when we started dating, would constantly get poked and scratched by that ring when we would let's say "circle the bases." and I find that pretty ironic.
