@drngalim: If you mean the OraQuick oral HIV self-test, you can do it at home without drawing blood. It detects HIV antibodies from your gum fluid. How to use it 1. Prepare * Don’t eat, drink, brush your teeth, use mouthwash, or use other oral-care products for 30 minutes before testing. * Check that the kit is not expired or damaged. * Wash and dry your hands. 2. Collect the sample * Remove the test stick from its packet. * Gently place the flat pad against the outer gum above your teeth. * Swab completely around the upper gum once, then the lower gum once. Don’t scrape or press hard. 3. Start the test * Place the test tube in its stand. * Immediately put the test stick into the tube as instructed, with the pad in the liquid. * Start a timer. 4. Read the result * Wait at least 20 minutes. * Read the result between 20 and 40 minutes; don’t interpret it after 40 minutes. Understanding the lines * C line only: HIV test is negative. * C + T lines: reactive/positive preliminary result — you need a laboratory/clinic test to confirm it. * No C line: invalid test — repeat with a new kit. Important: OraQuick can miss a recent HIV infection because it detects antibodies.
