@whatsthatmeen: Unpopular opinion… if you order a salad with no tomatoes or no croutons etc.. and they accidentally put them anyway and you don’t have allergies or a medical reason… just pick them off. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not talking about allergies, religious restrictions, or anything that could affect your health. I’m talking about something that’s easy to remove without ruining the food. #serverlife #servertok
This really shouldn't be a consistent issue. If servers are relaying correct and full orders, and chefs are executing it, you don't have big food waste from mistakes. If food quality is poor, or other quality issues, you will get more waste, but most people just order too much. Saying someone should accept food not as ordered because it's "close enough" is poor service.

I wish the guests knew that the salad workers literally just pick them off in the back and send the same salad back out. 😁

im a server/bartender...i cannot stand tomatoes so I will make sure no tomatoes are on the item ordered. plus picking the tomatoes out still leaves the icky nasty juice on the salad and then the flavor lol but thats just my opinion. now with other types of things id agree

It’s just more wasteful to put them in there if the person asked for them not to be in there. If I order something and I say no tomatoes don’t put any tomatoes in it it’s just that simple. It’s none of your business why I don’t want it in there. It’s less waste for the kitchen and less work. I mean I’m not gonna send them back and ask for a new one I’ll pick it off. But don’t be a wasteful and put in there in the first place. that’s your job put it on the ticket and the kitchen job to not put it on there it’s pretty bloody simple

No ma’am. If I say no tomato, I mean no tomato. If it ends up in the trash, that’s not MY fault as the person who ordered it specifically that way. You can’t just “pick it out.” That tomato taste is left behind 🤢

Croutons I get, but the juicy pulp and seeds of tomatoes are hard to get off. My mom hates them and notices even though most don’t. It’s like how taking pickles off doesn’t get rid of the flavor left behind. When people ask for something, they asked for a reason whatever that may be. While I get the POV, my thought process is the person wasting food is whoever made the order wrong

If they are cherry tomatoes, fine. But the cut tomatoes leak all over the lettuce and make it soggy. Sauce is disgusting to many people (mayo, mustard, etc), and you can’t pick that off as it’s soaked into a bun or sandwich meat

so your issue is somebody complaining about the fact that you added something that wasn't wanted? The salad isn't pre-made... so you had to do more work to make it wrong. think about that for a second. and then also telling somebody to just pick off tomatoes or cucumbers... like there's no residual whatsoever to those items

Today I asked for a burger no tomato. I got a burger with tomato. I removed the tomato with my own hands and then ate my burger. It wasn’t until I was done eating that the server said “oh. I forgot you said no tomato” I said “ no worries. That burger was yummy” didn’t affect me or my burger at all. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Im so sensitive to onions I can taste the onion powder in doritos as a separate flavor. if you put onion on my plate, im returning it for a remake. im not paying $24 an entree and tipping %20 for food i dont even like.

Or Im paying for it, you write it down, why waste our time if you are just going to bring it however the cook decides.

Yeah not arfid doesn’t work like that even with no specific allergy to it in general cross contamination wise… arfid stil causes me to get sick eating it as simply “picking it off the food” still leaves behind the texture taste and juices even with it picked off so I’m still ending up tasting it and it still sets my gag reflex off and my upset stomach sensitivity wise. I can’t just “pick it off” it still leave behind its taste texture etc and I can still taste it regardless that’s how cross contamination works it’s already cross contaminated each other

unpopular opinion:picking at your food is a great example of bad manners and considered rude to the Chef. That was in the olden days, I suppose

You know how many times I asked for no tomato on my sandwich when I’m out to eat? Every time. You know how many times I get tomato on my sandwich anyways? About 50% of the time. You know how many times I’ve complained or had it remade? None. Because I literally just pick it off lmao. It’s really not that deep. To the point where I don’t even say “no tomato” anymore I just let them make it how they make it and I take off what I don’t like.
