The Dillon Falls case. On July 19, 2025, six friends were enjoying the Deschutes River near Bend, Oregon, when what seemed like a peaceful outing ended in tr*gedy. The group was floating down the river and ended up passing the last safe exit point before Dillon Falls. When they realized the current was pulling them toward the falls, three of them abandoned their tubes and managed to reach the shore. They suffered only minor injur**s and were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The other three were unable to escape and were swept over a drop of about 16 feet, followed by a long stretch of extremely vlent rapids surrounded by rocks, logs, and other obstacles. Amanda I. Loyd, 39, Lindsay V. Bashan, 33, and Derek Slesinger, also 33, lost their lives. The b*ds of the two women were found during the first days of the operation, while Derek remained missing for more than a month. On August 27, two kayakers found Derek’s bdy in the rapids near Lava Island Falls, several miles downstream from the accdent site. The recovery took about five hours because of the force of the water and the difficult access. His identity was confirmed on September 4, ending weeks of searches.
