I paint them before I go to bed, let them dry as much as I can and put the top coat on the next morning. the top coat hides the scratches perfectly for me

I actually had really good luck with applying basecoat first. Let it sit for a few minutes it settles the dents and then apply topcoat.

For the UK girlies the Barry M clear top coat is affordable and amazing! I apply one coat after 1-2 layers of polish and try and let it dry as much as possible(hold it in front of fan for like 2-5 minutes) and it makes my polish last 2 weeks and generally remains really shiny and undented!

in my experience, a 2x volume top coat never dries. I woke up and immediately painted my nails, did stuff all day. woke up the next day to the whole nail polish warped. it activates all the layers and never dried. it would feel dry to the finger yet gummy.
