He was told before he run if he used he would be DQ. So that’s on him. A foul in long jump is a foul whether it’s 1mm or 1000mm don’t see why this is even a story

The block doesn’t help him start. It is an accommodation so that he can compete. It is also an accommodation that many other people have used before.

I don't know enough about Hunter's situation to comment on that. But if white flag was shown to Tara's jump during competition, I think DQing her later on is wrong. She might have been over, but if officials have approved that during competition, in my opinion, it is their mistake and Tara should not suffer due to that.

it's just a weird coincidence they were both fine until they beat the others basically and then was disqualified. I don't think the blocked was advantage at all and taras shoe is insane

Uhm, did they not see the block Hunter used? Like, I am walking with the block to the spot. The block is being llaced on the ground. I am starting with the block and officials are everywhere, and no one said anything??? Nothing????

A a former track runner (no where near their level) these calls are ridiculous! Tara foot was still fully on the white and same with hunters foam block it helps have a FAIR advantage with not having his other had on the line just like any other runner

I hadn’t heard about Tara but I just saw the interview Hunter did after he competed and was disqualified and I think it’s major bullshit. He said that the rules didn’t say whether the block was or wasn’t allowed and he and many other Paralympic athletes have used them before and it’s wrong to make the decision to not allow them after the race has already started. There’s no world where I think that’s ok. As for Tara based on the photos I also think it’s bullshit she wasn’t touching that line.

His call was unfair but unfortunately the rule was there just very unclear, hence my ruling of it being “unfair” not “invalid”. Tara dq though was utter BS! You can clearly see her foot is not touching the line the edge of her shoe is not the sole of her foot and it’s STILL visibly in the air not touching the line!

anyone who hasn't seen hunter talk about this should, he speaks to the fact that precedent suggests if it isn't explicitly written in the rules as a no, it is allowable. like she said, he's used it before. they told him when he arrived at this race that he'd be dq'd if he used it. he said fine, but decided to run to advocate for accessibility rights knowing what would happen. nothing fair about that situation, imo.

I feel like people don’t understand why this isn’t giving Hunter an advantage. He has no ankle flexion. He’s unable to go into a four point down start fully with his ankle bent because he doesn’t f*cking have one. His prosthetics are made as close to the human leg as possible. The only thing they can’t add is an ankle so if he’s elevated by like 4 inches who cares he’s unable to bend his ankle, HE DONT HAVE ONE!!!

unfair! an unclear real means the rule should br clarified not the athlete punished. and Tara's marked being called a foul long after the jump and no chance for appeal is ridicoulous. thr tip of her shoe is flush with the line - an ideal jump. ridicoulous calls
