@realisticrecruiting: I don’t think salary negotiation should exist. It does not serve to benefit anybody and leads to pay inequality for people who are not as aggressive about it. Companies should have a set pay a role is worth and save the increases and negotiation for high performing internal employees. But what do you think? #jobsearchtips #careeradvice #salarynegotiation
Range or not, it needs to be standard for companies to put the salary in the description in the first place

Then stop posting jobs that have a $25k salary range. That is ridiculous. I make $95k, so if I see a salary range posted at $75-100k then I am going to ask for $100k assuming it is available.

I was just offered an internal promotion. The range is 72k-130k. I’m making 100 in my current position. I was offered a $2/hour raise for 4x the responsibility. I don’t understand why they couldn’t be upfront ???

Companies will also make exceptions for great talent and step out of the range. HR thinks they run the company.

OK, but what about the person who is afraid to negotiate and they take the $85,000. They’re leaving $15,000 on the table. The company won.

Both not real. Company asks candidate about the expectations- if below they accept it. If above, they resign from candidate.

This is just not realistic. I hire a lot of people when I post a job I don’t know if I am going to get an applicant that has 15 years experience or some from a lower level position that want to try to level up but zero experience. And not going to pay them the same.

So true. I hate applying to jobs that have a range, just give me the one salary number so we can both stop playing games.

I mean I think it would be important to convey that you only advertised the top end of the salary to be transparent and that was the highest budget for the Rome

Sometimes you don't get awesome finalists and you hire someone in newer that you hope grows into the role. Would you want to pay that person 75 vs 100?

I would appreciate it. I can be deemed as an aggressive negotiator at times… my last job I demanded the higher wage at hire or I’d walk. I hate having a carrot dangled in my face and having to litigate what they advertised… makes no sense. I know my worth and if I see a wage I’m not okay with on a job posting, I just wouldn’t apply.
