2016 Trump voter here. Obviously this take makes me bristle, but I think you’re right. I was a 20-year-old Christian fundamentalist at the time, and while I would contend that I received a fair share of religious and political brainwashing growing up, I do recall there being a part of me that was knowingly trading moral integrity for political power on that election day.

I was 13 in school back in 2016 and voted for him in a mock election. I know that had absolutely no impact but it still disgusts me a little looking back.

I was 18 and brainwashed by my conservative parents to vote for Trump, how is that not forgivable? Especially when I've taken every action I can to be against Trump now

Unfortunately I did vote for him back in ‘16 and believe me. I know this video is for a target audience like me. I have acknowledged years ago when I told myself during the pandemic as long as I live, I will never vote republican again, I also had to tell myself, “years ago, quite a few people in your life tried to warn you about the dangers of voting for him, and even if I get away from them all and even do a lot of deconstruction and reeducation, not everyone is gonna forgive me and I need to be ok with that.” I don’t think a lot of other people have it in their heads that not everyone is willing to forgive. So

I was literally a Republican and in a cult in 2015 and the day he won the nomination was the last time I ever voted Republican.

Best case scenario, you didn’t know about all that. But ignorance isn’t a particularly good scenario, especially when we see what ended up happening.

I was 18 in 2020. I hadn't paid a lick of attention to politics because I was going through a lot of stuff at the time, the only real thing I knew about trump was that he wanted to build a wall along the border. I only voted for him because my parents told me I needed to. After january sixth I stopped listening to my parents on who I should support politically. I also started paying attention to politics.
Super glad he didn't win, super regretful I voted for him. But I also will never deny that I voted for him once, because I want people to see how much work I've put into being better in the last six years. How much I've gone out of my way to educate myself and actually pay attention.

It’s even worse because the shame is from realizing that supporting the rapist wasn’t going to make them important enough to spare. Not shame that they were fine with other people suffering.

We've got to draw the line between former Trump supporters and current ones, for pragmatic reasons if nothing else. If we reject them, the Maga Cult will take them back. Isn't it better to forgive them if they're now standing against him? Wouldn't it be impractical to waste that growth?
