@bizbrunei: Brunei is showcasing historic paintings by some of the world’s most celebrated Impressionist artists, offering visitors a new cultural experience as the country broadens its tourism appeal ahead of Visit Brunei Year 2027. Impressionist Landscape is the second exhibition at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah curated by Sothebys, one of the world’s leading art auction houses, and features 18 paintings, including works by Claude Monet, Paul Signac, Eugène Boudin and Paul Cézanne. Complementing the historic paintings is Brunei’s first immersive experience by local video studio Dari Runa, reimagining the four seasons depicted in Impressionist landscapes of Europe before transitioning to scenes of Brunei. The exhibition was officially opened by HRH Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and YAM Pg Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah on July 27 and is open to the public until July 31, 2027. HRH said the exhibition builds on Brunei’s position as a showcase for internationally renowned art, following the Orientalist-based Faith & Devotion exhibition in July 2024. Impressionism’s emergence in late 19th-century France was a defining moment in the transition to modern art, shifting from the polished, carefully composed finish of academic painting towards more immediate, subjective expressions of light, atmosphere and everyday life.
