@heidimariemarney: Being self aware is the best thing you can do. I had absolutely no idea how people were perceiving me. Recently I was having a convo with someone and I could tell almost instantly they were not interested in what I was saying. I completely removed myself from the situation. For years, I would talk over people, interrupt, making everything about me, and I didn’t realise I was coming across a bit of a dick. I genuinely was just excited and in my own way wanting to connect. Now I don’t over share with people who don’t care. I don’t tell pointless stories. I’m still mad as a hatter but with the people who appreciate it and self awareness is honestly one of the greatest strengths you could ever have! They doing what my lecturer told me to do. For me, it allowed me to just self reflect and realise if how I portrayed myself was an accurate reflection of who I was. It isn’t about caring what people think and changing yourself for them, it’s about understanding your impact on them and realising how you’re being perceived so you don’t waste yours or their time! #adhdbrain #selfawarenessjourney #selfdevelopmenttips #anxietysupport #youcandothis

Self awareness is also knowing that those girls were also a bit resentful of you being able to enjoy yourself because they were too insecure to do so. So don’t be too hard on yourself either 👍

I use to do this thinking I was creating connection with the person over our shared experience. Now I tell my brain to shut up and let the person talk and often don’t bring up the thing. I learn more from listening and feel I’m received better. Thanks for sharing

This is incredible. I am a great listener and people with ADHD tend to latch onto me because I let them have their show. Sometimes I avoid conversation with them bevause I know I need to be in certain frame of mind but I am going to post this to my story because I know they are aware that they do it, but think it's funny or not a big deal but it draining 60% of the time. I have learned how to politely leave conversations with them early.

It's true, but it's the same old story of masking to fit into society. When you have two Neurodivergent people together, you can often tell your story and they tell their story and you both get it and share the vibe. It's Neurotypical people who act like, "no you can't tell your story, this is about me." but then ND are made to feel like the selfish one for joining in. waaah

Self awareness is understanding yourself and understanding how you affect people. Most people have none. When you notice that, youll think you are on another planet

Great advice. You only start being more aware as you get older, or should do because you're trying to better yourself. I'm abit hyper and can be abit to much so it's learning to step back abit and not take over the show, getting over exited 🙌🏻😂

Great insight. One of my friends does this all of the time. She knows she has adhd. She does this when we first get together, then settles down. She is one of the most lovely insightful people I know. ♥️

Beware of being too self aware because it will make you fear being perceived.

I corrected that behaviour when I was quite young, after being called out by my peers. It was seen as one-upmanship, bragging, me trying to be more important than the speaker, trying to be relevant. People thought I was a pain in the 🍑. I learned it was more important to listen, ask questions at the end of a story, not interject cutting people off, not to be rude, give people respect to speak. Learning how to communicate effectively.

omg!!! its as if my brain has been exposed. I have to literally bite my tounge to stop butting in. learned that through some negative experiences like that. Taught me to stop and be patient but I am literally biting my tounge and clenching fists. its hard work to control it. like a rollocoaster in the head wanting to come out through the tounge
