In 2010 her family moved her into a senior community because they figured she'd be safer there. After that nobody kept up the property taxes on the place. The bill was $2,300. The county piled on another $13,000 in interest and penalties, then seized the condo and sold it for $40,000. They took the $15,000 they were owed and pocketed the other $25,000. Minnesota law said they could. She sued. Lost in district court. Lost on appeal. Took it all the way up, and all nine justices sided with her.
