Try a sugar cube or two on top of the grain, maybe they will eat and associate you as the sweet treat bringer, then after that gentle pets to show love

I personally know this feeling. My OTTB was beaten with trainers at the track. We rescued her at 3 years old. She is blind in one eye, has a bowed tendon and scars and severe trust issues… but she is safe for the rest of her life now. Humans can be horrible 🥺

my horse was extremely abused....he started relaxing when I would just sit in his stall with him for a few hours after I mucked his stall every day....
