@deepinthelore_: The academic whose adaptation of The Odyssey is credited for being an influence for Christopher Nolan’s film has ripped the movie to shreds. Emily Wilson became the first woman to translate Homer’s epic into English in 2017, and although Christopher Nolan has cited her work as an inspiration for his, Wilson is not impressed with what he’s created. @Universal Pictures UK @Universal Pictures #whattowatch #odyssey #theodyssey #christophernolan #imax
I hate the narrative around “he praised her so why is she complaining” if I made a burger claiming it was inspired by McDonald’s associated it with McDonald’s publicly and then turned out is was raw beef with a stale bun McDonald’s would have every right to comment and say that they wouldn’t have made a burger that way. As such Emily Wilson is defending and protecting HER work it is nothing to do with praise. She translated the odyssey how she felt or should be done. One of the thousands of men who read it’s interpretation is now encouraging people to read her adaptation and all she is saying is don’t expect to read a toned down uncomplex version of the odyssey she’s defending her work and I say good for her

Omg I can’t believe she didn’t like it but also she makes a lot of valid points!

tbf I think she can go suck lemons on this one, it seems pointed in a needlessly headline-baiting way. I'll still be buying her book, mind
