@elevate.inward: In 2017, I was given three years to live. My lung function was 9%. My oxygen was 79%. My resting heart rate was 129. I was told a lung transplant was my only chance at more time, but I wasn’t ready to go down that road. I went for the transplant consult anyway — mostly because my mom asked me to. After hearing everything involved, even she told me she respected my decision. I left that hospital accepting that my time might be coming to an end. I wrote my will, started saying goodbye to people I loved, and tried to check things off my bucket list while I still could. Then came Trikafta. It wasn’t even approved in Canada yet, and nobody knew if someone as sick as me would qualify for the trial. My doctor put my name forward, but they weren’t sure I would be accepted. Then one day, I got the call. I was 1 of 20 people across Canada chosen for the trial. This video is the moment I told my mom I got approved. The emotion you see is real — because this wasn’t just a medication. This was a chance at more time. Within three weeks of starting Trikafta, my lung function went from 9% to 16%.
