Katara always acted like his mom. 😒 I didn’t like it.

i’m not a zutara shipper…but i do believe they have a point when they say that if she’d ended up with zuko, she would be known as a fighter and historic waterbender rather than just a healer 💔💔

I remember being 13 and getting so angry when aang and katara got together. As always another interesting female character reduced to the male leads prize. Because a man can't do the right thing just for the sake of doing the right thing, no, no we must gift him a beautiful fawning woman and a gaggle of children. It's overdone, overplayed and reductive.

katara should have been ATLEAST the leader of the southern water tribe. did we forget that the southern waterbenders were wiped out too? she should have gotten the chance of training a new generation of southern waterbenders. Atp they should cancel the whole franchise

and let's be clear. this has NOTHING to do with us wanting Zutara or "hating aang". I would prefer if zuko was written off the show entirely if it meant that katara didn't end up with aang, and her character wasn't fully erased. id rather she end up with no one compared to this absolute destruction of her character.

I think you're just using Katara to bolster your narrative; I don't think you understand the depth of her character. Katara's desire to fight stemmed from the Fire Nation taking her mother, but after the war, fighting wasn't necessary. She helped found Republic City. Even after Aang's time, she helped train Korra. And thanks to the movie we can see that Katara was never Submissive, did we watch the same movie?

Because the ppl most responsible for Katara characterization and plot in atla were written by Elizabeth Welch and Aaron Ehasz, two ppl who never were invited to return to anything post-atla, and that is why Katara’s writing (and general writing tbh) is lacking in everything else

her having a huge air bender belt while Aang has nothing to indicate he has a water tribe partner is crazy. and those beads don't count, they're on an air bender necklace and bc of his blue tattoos they look like a part of his design.

Speaking of misogyny in the avatar universe, I was just thinking about this today.
.
Do we have any depictions of Aang, Roku, Kuruk or any male avatar using healing waterbending? I know Yangchen, Kyoshi, and Korra do.

if you look outside of the show she has accomplished many things. she was a council member in republic city, out lawed blood bending, involved with politics with Sokka, helped with issues in republican city, southern and northern water tribe and the earth kingdom, a respected water bending master. I know in tlok and the movie she is presented as just a mother and a healer but she has done all of these things they are just not shown in tlok and extra. I think it would help the fandoms view of katara if they showed these things in there animations but they haven't.

genuine question which I'm not sure is right or wrong, wouldn't the ending of the TV series be misogynistic too? by the shows end despite the growth that katara experienced throughout the show (especially season 3 overcoming the trauma of her mother) the writers shoehorn a romance with Aang reinforcing negative story tropes about what constitutes a happy ending for the male lead? or at least i always felt that Aang and Katara being a thing was incredibly forced.

Katara always deserved better and unfortunately the structuring of Katara and Aang’s romance was always a huge red flag that this would be the outcome. She always deserved more consideration and perspective in the original series when it came to resolving conflict between her and Aang and it was always centered on his resolution, morals, and perspective. And… I’ll be honest, while the movie was beautiful, to me the narrative and character arcs were not very special to me. Aang barely had a character arc and it was all a rehash in this movie. It’s beautiful to look at but overall gets a 6/10 from me just because it’s a total rehash of TLOK.

did you see that they were originally planning on having her very pregnant?
also I think it's weird how so much of her design is orange or very clearly connected to aang but he has none of that in return
