Humanoid robots are getting surprisingly good at table tennis. This clip shows a humanoid playing against a human across a full-size table. The robot keeps both feet active, shifts its weight from side to side, moves the paddle into the ball’s path and then resets for the next shot. The detail I keep replaying is the lower body. The arm swing gets most of the attention, but the robot is constantly using small steps and knee movement to stay balanced while reaching for the ball. That coordination is hard because the robot has to control the legs, torso and arm at the same time while reacting in a very short window. Table tennis is a useful stress test for humanoid control. The ball changes position fast, contact timing has to be precise, and a late movement can ruin the return. A robot also has to recover its posture immediately because the next ball may arrive from a different angle. The video alone does not tell us whether the behavior is learned, scripted, vision-driven, teleoperated, or a mix of methods. But physically, the robot is doing more than standing in place and swinging an arm. It is moving its whole body around the table and maintaining balance through repeated exchanges.
