Ulder was also in Elturel when it was sucked into Avernus. He helped get that city, including all the tiefling refugees we’re helping throughout the game, get out of Avernus only to come home and find his son had sold his soul to the very devil he was just fighting, seemingly out of vanity.

I read a comment from someone claiming they'd lived the exact same life as Astarion (let's already pause there). Then they argued that the story should have ended with Astarion falling in love with Cazador because that's what happened in their own life. I'll just leave that here.

I don’t think Ulder is a villain. I’m frustrated with him. I’m frustrated that it took a lot for him to believe his own son even with all that happening. I don’t blame him, but I am frustrated with it. That it literally took us tadpole connecting Wyll and Ulder together to get him to believe his son. Like even if he couldn’t say why, it is frustrating that he didn’t believe his son that he raised to be a good person. But I like that they did immediately mend things. And I think Wyll is a daddy’s boy. He clearly loves his dad very much. And that love for his dad made me less frustrated because I value how Wyll feels, and he loves and cares about his dad.

i think some of halsins dialogue is tagged weirdly, which may be coloring people’s impressions of him. a lot of his friendly dialogue which isn’t explicit flirting is tagged as if it is, and so he’ll come on to you if you’re just nice to him. i remember being taken aback and thinking he came across as a ‘nice guy’ because i just hadn’t been rude to him and he took that as interest. he’s definitely not a pedophile or a predator but he is kind of set up to fail for less emotionally regulated people in the fandom

Were they trying to apply that polygamy is equivalent to pedophilia? Also, isn't Halsin and Astarion similar in age? And also isn't Shadowheart in her late 40s? And didn't Mizora manipulate the both of them intentionally to isolate Wyll? Some people just don't make sense

I’ve always imagined Ulder feeling heartbroken about his son going down a ‘bad’ path and then was probably evasive about the situation. Exiling his son wasn’t a good choice, of course not, but he did what he thought was right for the CITY. Baldur’s Gate is Ravengaurd’s main concern- yes even above his son. From what we know of him, he is a good man and one of the few good politicians. He taught Wyll to be brave and willing to fight and protect the city; he was a good dad.

also ulder does not have the privilege that many parents have, the option to put their own child first. ulder has all of baldurs gate to think about. and even just being his son provided wyll a position of power. even if he knew the reason for the pact, it would still be rational to not allow a person to have a position of power in his city when they have a devil whispering in their ear. its just not a good option for the city. and ulder is required to consider the cities safety above his own son. that sucks but that's why he's a good leader for the city. and I think even Wyll understood that.

The only fault i find with Halsin’s romance is timing. I get that he wanted to complete his lifes work in ACT 2 before propositioning TAV, but ACT 3 is when most romancable characters want to settle down.
