This still happens at some companies, but for the most part, that era is over. Your manager is too busy trying to keep their own career on track. They don't have time. It’s not that they don't care. The system just isn’t built like that anymore. Your career development is on you: → Identify the skills you need for the next level and go build them → Seek out feedback instead of waiting for it. → Find your own mentors and sponsors. → Track your own trajectory. Don't assume someone else is doing it. i think you're right, the confusing but they act like they will help you grow, but there is no follow through

Yeah in 2009 my boss told me what class to sign up for now I’m a lead in a different department and I got reprimanded for issues with the team and I told my supervisor I never had formal training in leadership I thought they would have informed me to take
