@whileyouwonder: High-masking, late-identified autistic people, unite. 💛 How long did it take you to realise? For a little while, I genuinely felt embarrassed that I’d spent years assessing autistic people before realising I was autistic too. But then I remembered something important. They didn’t teach us about high-masking presentations. They didn’t teach us what autism can look like in women, AFAB people, or people who had learnt to camouflage so well that even they couldn’t see it. There weren’t thousands of autistic adults sharing their lived experiences online. There weren’t self-identification resources like there are now. There certainly wasn’t a roadmap for professionals to recognise themselves. I wasn’t missing something obvious. The information simply wasn’t there. That experience completely changed the direction of my career. It’s why I shifted my work towards autistic adults, especially women and AFAB people. It’s why I started While You Wonder. It’s why I created my Autistic Self-Identification Program. And it’s why I share so much information here, freely, because nobody should have to spend decades wondering simply because the knowledge wasn’t accessible.
