I always sew by hand I recommend if you’re trying to tighten a shirt DONT cut the excess until you try it on so you know if you need to redo the seam and have the extra fabric to work with!! If that makes sense

hey i hand sew and when i tighten the seams on my shirts i use a scrunch method, flip the shirt inside out sew along the seam of the shirt down and then up and pull slightly before tying it off to create a slight scrunch and a more form fitting shirt

its not the size thats the problem its the type of stitch . normally u overlock stretchy fabric because it allows the stitch to move slightly with the fabric. another way is zigzag stitch this provides the same movement but can be less stable depending on fabric. what has happened there is the stitch has acted as a perforated line for the fabric to tear.

Aww no😭😭 it prob just isn’t a stretchy fabric I’ve had the same thing happen if the fabric is stiffer doing this method

Go to thrift store! They normally have sewing machines for cheap. I will alter clothes 5 minutes before I leave and everyone asks me how my clothes fit so well 😛
