I work in a dementia unit. We can absolutely tell. this is quite literally exactly what happens. It does keep them distracted, though. Having them spend an hour trying to figure out who's god damn baby that is is a lot more useful than having them spend an hour trying to go get into their car to run errands. Mind you, none of them have a car anymore, but you try telling them that.

It’s half and half at my facility. I did have one resident tell me she was going to drown the baby in the sewer.. we didn’t try that again 🙃

So I recently saw a prototype for a sort of doll/ stuffie for dementia care meant to take readings, provide comfort, and model breathing for dementia patients. It’s meant to be held like a baby but now I see we need cat/ other pet versions too.

Im a nurse and one time I gave a babydoll to an elderly black woman who had dementia because she was so restless and she told me she didn't know whose ugly ahh white baby that was but it wasn't hers and to take it back

Lmao I have a lady who regularly treats the baby doll like it’s real. One morning I came to bring in meds & she was cuddling it in bed so I said “I didn’t want to wake up your baby”. She LAUNCHED it & said “that damn baby isn’t real lady, you’re crazy” 😭 that’s my last time playing pretend !
