Forget the cow… milk a sheep. I know that goes against everything most people think about homesteading. Because a cow feels like the “goal.” Big animal. Big production. The traditional choice. But what people don’t talk about is what comes with that. We were getting 5 gallons of milk a day… and I’m going to be honest— that is overwhelming. Milking twice a day, every day… trying to use it all before it goes bad… it starts to feel like pressure instead of freedom. Now compare that to a milking sheep. Our Eastern Friesian gives a manageable amount— enough for drinking, yogurt, cheese… without taking over your entire routine. And the milk is richer, creamier, and incredibly nutrient-dense. Plus… you’re not just getting milk. You’re getting wool too— something we use in the garden to hold moisture and feed the soil, and even for rabbit nesting material. So now you’re getting multiple uses from one animal. I’m not saying cows are wrong. But I am saying… if I could go back and choose again— I’d seriously consider starting with sheep. Less overwhelm. More balance. Still incredibly productive. So now I’m curious… Would you choose a cow… or a milking sheep? 👇👇👇 #Homesteading #MilkSheep #EasternFriesian #FarmLife #BackyardFarming
