Ms. Harris :
If they “change” their behavior, give it three weeks. The mask usually drops within those three weeks.

They will do stuff so passive aggressive and low key that anyone on the outside would think you’re crazy explaining it to them but you KNOW what they did was intentional and on purpose.

When I told my ex I was done with our marriage, he went into over drive suddenly doing everything I had been crying and begging for for years at that point. Things he told me were in my head and I was being dramatic. He started following me around and wanting to spend quality time with me. He started wanting to go out and do things with me and our kids. It was like he morphed into that person I had been begging for overnight. BUT luckily one thing he said reminded me that it was a fantasy. He kept saying “I’ve been like this all along, you just didn’t pay attention” he couldn’t resist that little gaslighting in there. I also saw one day a quote that said something like if they only change because they’re losing you then your suffering didn’t matter to them until they had something to lose. That kept me on track and I didn’t give in and it was HARD. Almost a year free now!

& then they NEVER actually go to therapy, never take accountability or make real change! It’s all manipulation so you’re trapped & can’t move on

Understanding structural dissociation makes narcissistic behavior make so much sense. They aren't always consciously "faking" it, their personality is fragmented, and whichever "part" gets the result they need in that split second is the part that takes over. When they’re being charming, they genuinely feel it in that moment. If you challenge them, the aggressive Fight part snaps online to regain control. But if that aggression backfires, the system panics and instantly pivots to Victim or Fawn mode (softening up, playing helpless, rewriting history) to do damage control. It’s tactical survival. Power, pity, or sweetness whatever state yields the result they need in that exact micro-second is what comes forward. And because they switch parts entirely, they fully believe their own story in the moment, which is why it’s so unnerving to watch.

It’s especially a disorienting when they tell you how much they love you and are very emotional about changing. But a trauma bond is a trauma bond. Sometimes they just come with Apologies.

Honestly I’ve been with a malignant narcissist, and a covert one, the covert one seems more sinister because she kept saying and doing a little of what I asked, the malignant one was evil to my face at least.

They’re so good at masking because they’re that delusional and have mastered distortion so well, that even they believe they’re the person they’re pretending to be and the minute the mirror reflects something else, they punish you or guilt you. It’s so fcking scary!!!!!!

Lord I went back after being broken up for 6 months after a 5 year relationship. He went to therapy, took accountability, apologized. It took WEEKS for his bs to start again! So now I'm going through a breakup AGAIN.
