The CLARITY Act is too important to become just another partisan fight. In this video, I walk through three critiques of how Republicans have handled the debate: 1. Senate Democrats brought multiple proposed amendments to the table, yet Republicans did not adopt any of them. One proposal, in particular, appeared worthy of serious consideration: prohibiting elected officials,including the President and Vice President, from issuing their own digital assets. Republicans should acknowledge that the Trump meme coin created legitimate public concerns. Whether you support President Trump or not, most Americans don’t want elected officials issuing financial assets that create questions about conflicts of interest. It’s better to address that concern directly than pretend it doesn’t exist. Republicans could consider a compromise that allows state attorneys general to enforce the agreed-upon ethics provisions. While that may add complexity, transitioning to a new financial system is already complex. If thoughtful compromises help move meaningful legislation forward while protecting consumers and preserving innovation, they’re worth discussing. The bigger picture is this: we have an opportunity to modernize our financial system, provide everyday people with better financial tools, and ensure the United States remains the global leader in digital assets.
