@rev.sydney.finn: As always I’m not a therapist, just speaking from my personal recovery and experience. #relationshipadviceforwomen #relationshipadvice #avoidantattachmentstyle #fearfulavoidantattachment #relationships
I always thought the “attachment styles” thing was weird, because it’s just anxiety in two different directions. It’s ultimately a reaction to getting hurt and trying to prevent that hurt from happening again

Attachments styles are just how YOU react when you’re attached and disregulated. They aren’t this identity thing, it’s not about finding a partner who regulates it for you, it’s your own fear of loss and getting hurt that you have to calm to stay regulated

EXACTLY! I have a textbook dismissive avoidant that I’m dealing with and every single piece of advice I’ve read is absolutely useless because for some reason it never goes deep enough to where their core biggest wound is the LACK of love, not the opposite, and every time I genuinely show love and care he opens up more and more. It’s so not hard to treat people like actual human beings and not some diagnosis code that has automated responses, my gosh

Need your take 😭 A guy pursued me hard, told me he thinks I’m the one for him that I have lots of wife qualities and he really likes me etc. things were moving fast but I told him I’m totally fine w whatever pace he wants to set because I’m not the best at patience and he agreed to be the one to set that pace. then said he needed time to discern and reset because of his faith and asked for space and I told him I totally understand and I’ll give him the space he’s asked for. We’ve had no real contact since but we keep running into each other and we never had this many run ins before this whole thing so they feel like little signs from God. Would you ever reach out or let him come back if he wants to? I’m trying not to tell scary stories that this means he doesn’t like me.

The work to ease the fear is wiiild. I’ve done so much work on so much. I’m so proud of my life except for this one area. Well I’m proud because I’m working but I’m still afraid. This work reveals a part of my reflection that I haven’t looked at in a long time. I can’t sit with myself for 5 minutes without worrying about when I’m going to get communication again! Wild! I’m working on it, but it’s surreal now that I’ve started. I do everything right on paper as far as keeping busy and living a life I love…but at the end of the day…I still wish he’d text or communicate constantly which is craaazy for real. Been following for awhile and your work has absolutely impacted me already, even though I have so much to discover and unlearn and regulate still! Thanks Sydney!

Hi Sydney, love your content and managed to improve tremendously the way I feel and act in the relationship. I’m dating around (with intimacy, as we do it in my part of the Europe) but there’s a guy who told me that he isn’t ready to be in a relationship(he thought he was), despite stating and showing his affection to me (we were friends before). I’m okey with seeing him casually, while I’m looking for my life partner, and I’m truthful when I say it. At the same time, I’d love to eventually let him change his mind, as we are a great match, but if he doesn’t, it’s fine by me. I’m trying not to be a vampire, but it’s hard to operate in this grey zone. Would you have an advice for me?

Any advice on dating a guy who has ADHD and will at times get overwhelmed and need time alone to process?
It is still early days and we are reconnecting after having been casual previously but he wasn't in the right place for anything so we took a break.
He is currently grieving a friend who he lost a couple of weeks ago, plus work pressures, so it's a tough time for him right now.
How emotionally honest should I be with him about how much I miss him, I haven't seen him for over two weeks. We are still texting and he has been honest with me about how he is feeling right now. I just don't want to put unnecessary pressure on him right now.

if he used to be very persistent but i used to be very distant and now that i’ve realized that i want him he stopped replying when i tell him to meet but the other day we ended up alone and we held hands. What do i do? i told him we should find another day to meet because i had to go after he insisted that i stayed but he didn’t reply do i insist? do i leave him alone? i want to tell him to meet but i’m scared he won’t reply and i’m scared that i’m getting anxious and if i text him i’ll be from a place of anxiety and it won’t work. The difficult thing is that in public we can’t show it because it’s a secret

This is how we learned it in my early years education course! Whether it’s Anxious/avoidant/disorganised, they’re all insecure attachment. It’s a bit heartbreaking really when you learn the root of it, but we still have neuroplasticity and we can learn! but this is why, like you say, it’s so important to focus on our emotions and behaviour so we can regulate ourselves instead of projecting our fears onto our loved ones ❤️

If anxiety makes normal situations feel far more intense than they should, Clara Hartley’s anxiety quiz might help you understand why your mind reacts that way.

I'd argue some people are dealing with deeper issues that fly under the radar as "attachment style"
