@legend.of.history2: The Final Secrets of Egyptian Mummification They Never Told You For the ancient Egyptians, mummification was far more than preserving a body—it was the final step in preparing the deceased for eternal life. After the internal organs had been carefully preserved, the body was covered with natron salt for about 40 days to remove moisture and prevent decay. Once completely dried, priests washed the body with sacred oils and fragrant resins before beginning the long process of wrapping it in hundreds of meters of fine linen. Every layer of linen was wrapped with extraordinary care. Protective amulets were placed between the bandages, and priests recited sacred prayers to ask the gods to protect the soul on its journey into the afterlife. The preserved organs were stored inside four beautifully carved canopic jars, each guarded by one of the Four Sons of Horus. When the wrapping was complete, the mummy was placed inside richly decorated coffins and finally sealed inside a stone sarcophagus. Hidden deep within the tomb, surrounded by treasures, statues, food, jewelry, weapons, and sacred texts, the deceased was believed to awaken in the next world and live forever. Thousands of years later, these incredible burial rituals still remain among the greatest archaeological mysteries ever discovered, revealing the astonishing skill and beliefs of one of history’s greatest civilizations. #AncientEgypt #Mummification #EgyptianHistory #Pharaoh #AncientCivilizations
