Ryan Condal’s writing is so poor that he completely ruined her character. Season 1 Alicent and Season 2/3 Alicent are two entirely different characters. The motivations, personality, and choices that defined her in the first season were thrown away, replaced by someone who barely resembles the character we were introduced to.

idc anymore season 1 alicent is the ONLY real alicent / the only version of alicent for me. like that's the CLOSEST we will ever get to book alicent (extremely loyal to her family and their causes, stood ten toes down for ALL of her children not just helaena, a firm supporter of aegon ii's claim) but still a bit more nuanced than just an ambitious stepmother (still trying to spare rhaenyra and seek for middle ground, etc.)
