Here’s a quick field guide to the neighborhood: * /root: The ultimate boss level. Don't touch anything unless you’ve eaten your breakfast and typed sudo with full confidence. * /home: The only safe space. This is where your actual personal clutter lives. * /etc: Short for Etcetera, because when developers couldn't figure out where to dump system configuration files, they just threw them in the junk drawer. * /var: Short for Variable. Translates to: "Where log files go to swell up secretly until your disk space hits 100% at 3:00 AM." * /tmp: The room where everything gets deleted every time you restart. Basically the digital equivalent of short-term memory loss. * /usr: Contains user binaries and programs. Not to be confused with /home, even though that would make too much sense. * /dev: Hardware devices represented as files. Yes, your keyboard is technically a file here.
