everyone saying ‘they wouldn’t have won anyway’: the issue is literally the opposite. they were basically guaranteed to win the asian pop award, at the expense of a win in any major category, bc this new ‘award’ deliberately segregates artists based on their language and race so they’re not allowed to compete with their white and western peers. it is a platitude and the same thing that was done to bad bunny, beyonce, and the numerous Black artists pigeonholed into r&b categories every year. you can hate bts all you want but standing up to actual institutional racism is objectively a very good thing 💀
