Marine scientist here. The only sharks I’m genuinely terrified of are bull sharks and tigers. The reason being they eat anything and everything. They don’t care what it tastes like, they are literally trash eaters. They will 1000% attacks humans. Not for taste, but an easy meal.

Brazilian here!! Recife is known for shark attacks and the reason is a massive company that destroyed the reef that kept the sharks out of the beach.

Just say it out loud! Some sharks eat humans and some only will eat fish and seals. Also id imagine there are many more deaths from shark attacks each year that are simply not reported.

what gets me to be honest is how 100 people on that beach just stood there and watched! not one person went in to help, I get why but that’s just sad. Especially for his kids.

I know the ocean is the natural home of sharks and other sea life, and we choose to enter their environment. We all understand that there are risks. But that doesn’t mean someone deserves to be blamed or shamed after losing their life. Every time I see a shark attack, people immediately say, “It’s their fault they shouldn’t have been in the ocean.” But would you say that if it were your mom, dad, sibling, or someone you loved? Probably not. Life comes with risks. People drive cars, hike mountains, fly on planes, and even stay home, where something tragic can still happen. Just because someone knew there was a risk doesn’t mean they deserved what happened. You can acknowledge that sharks belong in the ocean while still having compassion for the person who lost their life. Blaming the victim doesn’t change anything, it just makes an already heartbreaking situation even more painful.

Considering some sharks can bite straight through bone, I can't imagine how excruciatingly painful that must've been. To be eaten alive by a shark has to be one of the most painful deaths.
