Different perspective- I’ve lived in NYC for over 30 years. Pre-9/11 I wore them. Post-911 I wear shoes I can run in or walk for miles over a bridge in.

The thing is that NYC is dirty or nothing like that . Is that people will step on you when you are on the trains and will lose a toe in the process . So we have learned that is best to use sneakers when riding the subway just to be safe . But yes we were sandals ☺️
