Trust is always given, never earned. Once it’s mistreated, it’s really hard to feel safe.

I think this is so accurate. I had a boss once who was very “you have to earn my trust”. Which inevitably meant all the old guard emotions had this insane access and power no new person could overcome. Why hire someone you don’t trust? Of course they can earn even more trust by demonstrating they are reliable, but it baffles me how leaders can behave this way and then expect people to go above and beyond.

So this is a valuable piece, because something some environment impact wrong, is being taught earning trust is weakness to leaders. I'm glad to unlearn and relearn.

Such an important reminder. Trust is not a sign of weakness. In the right hands, it is one of the strongest leadership decisions you can make.
