So “vernacular” basically means “dialect” or “accent”. Am I right?

I think of lexicon, vocabulary, and vernacular like: Lexicon(s) are your decks of cards, you can have multiple decks in your master lexicon. Vocabulary is your hand of cards for specific communication. Vernacular is the style in which you play any of your cards.

The word vernacular though does not just apply to the language. I’m an architectural historian, and I am constantly talking about vernacular architecture.

Can you touch a bit on how "vernacular" is similar or how it differs from "slang"?
