Brazil has a similar racist caricature called Tia Nastácia (Aunt Anastasia), created by infamous bigot author Monteiro Lobato. She is portrayed in this exact same way, the loyal cook to a white family in rural Brazil. Even the choice of the name Nastácia is heavy on racist symbolic values since, like aunt jemima, it is based on a real enslaved black woman known as Escrava Anastácia (literally “slave Anastasia”), that on its own is already fantasized in a type of troupe where the enslaved woman is punished for having relations with the housemaster. A truly lamentable thing, really 😢
