Walking with a Hip Drop? It Could Be Trendelenburg Gait. Trendelenburg gait is a common walking pattern caused by weakness of the gluteus medius and other hip abductor muscles. Normally, when you stand on one leg during walking or running, your hip abductors contract to keep your pelvis level. If they’re too weak, the pelvis drops on the opposite side, creating the characteristic “hip drop” or side-to-side sway. This isn’t just a walking issue—it can affect your entire lower body. Weak hip abductors allow the femur to move into excessive internal rotation and adduction during weight-bearing. This changes the mechanics of the knee and could lead to knee pain as well. Try the exercises in this video: ✅ 3 sets of 15 repetitions ✅ Hold each rep for 3–5 seconds ✅ Focus on slow, controlled movement ✅ Challenge yourself while maintaining proper technique. These exercises are excellent for anyone with hip weakness, Trendelenburg gait. Building stronger hip abductors helps keep your pelvis stable, improves lower-limb mechanics, and can reduce unnecessary stress throughout the kinetic chain. Save this post for later, give these exercises a try, and tag someone who walks with a noticeable hip drop! #hip #trendelenburg #physiotherapy #hipexercises #stronghips
