@author_matthewflagler: Many Canadians know that the Inuit are one of Canada’s Indigenous peoples. But few understand how their history differs from that of First Nations and the Métis. In this episode of my Canada: Truth & Reconciliation series, we explore: • Who the Inuit are • What Inuit Nunangat means • Inuit languages, including Inuktut and Inuktitut • Life in the Arctic • Government relocations • Residential schools in the North • Modern Inuit communities and self-government • Common misconceptions about the Inuit Understanding the Inuit means understanding a unique history, culture, and relationship with Canada—one that deserves to be told on its own terms. As always, my goal isn’t to tell you what to think. It’s to help Canadians better understand their own country. #inuit #canada #inuk #canadianhistory #indigenous
FACTS! I'm an Inuk and completely approve of this post. Thank you for understanding what we've been experiencing.

I’m one of the lucky ones in this country that has the privilege to frequently visit the Arctic. I spend most of my time in The Kivalliq Region. Inuit communities are incredible to see. When I hire people to support the North, I always tell them that the weather is cold, but the people are warm. Some of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever come across I’ve found in The Arctic.

What the white settlers did to the indigenous and Inuit people will be studied for generations. Hopefully we have learned from it and can do better.
