Last week, exhausted by chemotherapy, C. diff, and colitis, I reached a point where I wanted to stop treatments and enter hospice. But after a while, looking at my family and seeing the deep sadness in their eyes, everything shifted. I realized with sudden clarity: It’s not my time yet. I HAVE to keep fighting. After we got home, I asked my oldest daughter to do a temporary tattoo on my bald head. She’s an incredible tattoo artist and generously let me come to the shop where she works (@trash.panda.tattoo.id) to get this done. Resting in the chair—surrounded by great music and spa-like scents—I asked her for “tentacle-esque hair” on one side of my head—inspired by the magical bedtime stories about “Senack” that I used to tell my kids when they were little. The whole family pitched in for my reveal: My youngest daughter’s best friend did my makeup; Trey picked out my jewelry; and Indy and Sky bought me an outfit from Goodwill! When I lost my hair years ago during brain radiation, I was mortified. I hid under wigs, scarves, and hats. But seeing what my daughter created this week, brought tears to my eyes. And feeling the love pouring from her hands with every stroke of color reignited my strength. Today, looking at the temporary tattoo, I thought of something ironic: Did you know that octopuses have three hearts, and if they lose an arm, they can completely regrow it? They are literally built for PURE resilience. It just goes to show that sometimes strength isn’t about being unbroken—it’s about the quiet, fierce WILL to keep going and rebuild, no matter how hard things get. So, my perspective has shifted. I’m not done yet, and together, we are going to keep fighting. 🐙✨    #stage4cancer #Resilience #FamilyIsEverything #justkeepswimming #ecstilson @Ruby
