no cus they used the term terf so loosely with anyone who was transphobic we got Republicans thinking they're terfs now

respectability politics is not the answer. I agree our community is often overly defensive and argumentative, but that is ~because~ we are forced to constantly justify our existence in the face of nothing but vitriol. yea, thats gonna make a mf kind of abrasive.

There are so many things said with a lack of empathy towards biological women, which is why a lot of feminists stopped fighting for trans women. It’s the audacity of some saying 'we also have periods' to women suffering from endometriosis. Also if you want your pronouns respected, my right to reject 'cis' & just be a 'woman' must be respected too. Terms like 'birthing person' are deeply dehumanizing, reducing women to biological functions. We are not incubators. We are different & that’s fine. We were socialized as girls, faced unique struggles & experienced constant sxu4l1z4t10n, men following us when we were children, or looking at us with lst when we were just 8. You will never understand this & honestly, I’m glad, because I don't wish it on anyone. Trans women grew up with male privilege & privileges in the medical field. We are not the same & beauty lies in diversity. Ignoring our suffering & expecting the community you want to join to just cater to you is tone-deaf. It’s giving a male mindset that wants to mold everything around you & erase all we fought for. Trans men don’t do this drama online. They just live respecting boundaries. You can call yourselves women too, I really don't care. Just live your lives how you want, but don't tell me who I am. That's just basic respect.

tbh I don’t really care for optics when the vast majority of transphobes’ perception of us is shaped by propaganda and lies rather than by individual experiences with us

The trans women I know irl are kind and cool but the ones on twitter who say ‘Afab!’ In a mocking way really bother me, it’s really crude sexism.

My dad was trans, he didn’t like the trans community groups as a whole because of their views and behaviour towards women in particular.

The main issue I'm having rn is how often good faith questioning or disagreement is misconstrued as transphobia, when that is simply not true. Trans women, like anyone else, can sometimes have truly awful takes.

i will never reduce the whole lot of trans women to my interactions online but I'm very much tired of some speeches. the "being a cis woman doesn't entitled you to womanhood" or calling mothers who want to be called mothers "people who give birth" and a few other things that honestly don't want to repeat is very hurtful to the rest of the community.

yeah, it’s not the conclusion of “respect everyone” or the policies of protection against discrimination myself and many of my female friends (college demographic) disagree with, it’s the method of argumentation that creates needless pushback. No reasonable person would have to say anything if certain realities weren’t being denied by in large by activists. Stances that say “sex doesn’t matter under any circumstances” naturally create feminists that start to be critical.

i kinda get why trans women would be touchy about discussion w how much trauma they are subjected to tho. anybody who decided to get pushed into transphobia from optics is rly the one to blame. doesnt mean it’s ideal behavior but i dont expect perfect victims.

You’re so right about them going a bit loco when you disagree with them about something. I have to remind myself everytime I have an awful online interaction that trans women who are my friends and whom I’ve met irl are normal people and sometimes it is good to just get out and touch grass sometimes 😭😭😭

Also the fact that trans spaces are competitive as shit too. The people in some of these communities constantly want to compare themselves to eachother and get jealous of eachother without keeping in mind that everyone lives another life

This is absolutely not your job, but please know I’m coming from a place of love and allyship. How can I be a supporting and navigating trans women’s experiences even if there are elements I don’t agree on? So I want everyone to be accepted, but for example I will still

yes! these days i tend to go out of my way to respond and talk to terfs/radfems in the wild and online, partly cos of the tone I see other trans folk take towards them - I just think: there's quite a good chance I might be the first of us they've interacted with who just wanted to engage socially and have a diplomatic convo about stuff yk

I’m a cis woman - the discussions on TT on both sides are usually pretty toxic. Fortunately my experiences with trans women in the real world have all been positive and I haven’t met a Terf. 😁

It’s also how mean they get. It’s not the kind of mean we experience from other girls/women, it’s the kind of mean we experience from men. Infantilizing and violent. In ONE conversation: something about me (and the other women in the convo) being “strung up” by our ANKLES. Calling us “sweetie” and other condescending, infantilizing terms to demean us. Etc. Mind you, the entire time they were putting words in my mouth. It was a very similar experience to arguing with a script, like how it is to debate red pill incels.
