It was filmed in 2007 and sat on the shelf until 2011. It would have killed in 2008 or 2009 when Anna Faris was at the height of her fame. And when Topher Grace was coming off of Venom for better or worse.

Hot tub Time Machine was 80s nostalgia and that did well in 2010. 80s nostalgia has been huge for awhile

The only knock I give this movie is the fact it had Eddie Money's Take Me Home Tonight theme song in the trailer, but not in the movie. I kept waiting for it, yet it never came. 😪 Otherwise, I really enjoyed it. Great cast and it hit that 80s nostalgia perfectly. 👍

part of it has to be Topher Grace. I can't think of a less inspiring leading man to bring people into the box office. I don't hate him but he basically brings no draw to any film

I loved this movie! I was sat for the cast’s episode of “When I was 16” on VH1. The part that baffles me is the fact that it got shot in 2007 and didn’t get distributed until 2010. Also, there’s the whole thing with his friend meeting at Farris will be being the catalyst for their entire relationship and marriage.

Hot Tub Time Machine came out in 2010 no excuse on the decade of the show, release date timing played a factor but also advertising if I recall they had a trailer out but then kept posting it over and over again like 2 weeks before the release.

The Wedding Singer came out and 98 and was set in the 80s and people loved it- I don’t think it was the time period that made it flop
