I love honey! And I used to think Manuka honey was great… It’s a special type of honey produced by bees who gather pollen from the Manuka tree in New Zealand… And it’s been touted as having special properties due to the methylglyoxal (MGO) content… I love honey in general, but like all foods today, sourcing is critical! This is why I was super bummed to learn about significant glyphosate contamination in Manuka honey specifically…. Japan has even threatened on multiple occasions to stop importing Manuka honey from New Zealand due to high levels of glyphosate… I don’t understand why glyphosate is still used in New Zealand, or anywhere in the world for that matter… Pesticides like glyphosate and Atrazine are a BIG deal, and not something that should be ignored…. Can we produce enough food to feed everyone without them? Great question, we should be asking this right now and figuring out how to remove as MANY pesticides (most of which have not been adequately studied in humans for possible harm) as possible from our food chain… Glyphosate is also water soluble, so it gets into waterways and aquifers that become drinking water for humans… it’s hard to avoid! Even if you eat ALL of your food organic, I’m gonna bet you still have significant levels of glyphosate in your body… And we do NOT fully understand the harms this may cause you, or your children… I love having honey as a part of my #animalbased diet of o#animalbased fruit, and raw dairy, but I am careful to consider sourcing! There’s one type of honey from Heavenly Organics (no affiliation) that is certified glyphosate free in the US. I hope more honeys will be tested for glyphosate levels so consumers can know what they are buying! Welcome to #theremembering
