When I was 6 weeks pp, I told my ob I was struggling & her response was “welcome to motherhood!” I made an appt with a psychiatrist & was diagnosed with severe ppd a few days later. The way moms are just kind of expected to be miserable & martyr themselves is part of why I think she didn’t get the help she needed & why ppp isn’t well researched.

The crazy thing to me too is the MOMS who don’t have any kind of sympathy for her and are failing to see how many times she tried to get help for herself and she was failed.

I am coming to realize that really nobody knows what psychosis is. They failed her. I hope to God all these women in the comments were judging her and disgusted by her never ever ever feel like she felt. It’s disgusting. No one helped her.

PPP survivor here… this case is making me obsessive and very, very angry. Only reason I survived was due to a true partner. Who took full responsibility of all our kids in order for me to heal. He was not out running /training for marathons, having boys nights, or brunch.

I had ppp. At night I couldn’t sleep because I thought my husband would k’ll our baby, because I wasn’t sleeping it continued to the point where our baby was a demon and I was afraid of him. It’s horrible, absolutely horrible

There’s a reason why we have insanity as a legal defense. State of mind matters. So no, she doesn’t “need to be held accountable”—that’s something that applies to a typical case involving premeditation or at the very least, intent. If she was in psychosis, that’s that, she doesn’t need to be punished

He left her for two nights while he went on a "business trip" to New York where his now wife and him live. Was he cheating? Did that cause her physiological abuse and she wanted to hurt him by using the kids to do so? just so many questions what a sad situation.

this case has made me realize a LOT of people will excuse regular psychosis, unless you’re a mother. it’s funny how everyone keeps saying that there’s no excuse for her behavior as if it wasn’t LITERAL PSYCHOSIS. just because she was a mother they are holding it to high standards of “well she consciously made the decision” NO SHE DID NOT. SHE ASKED FOR HELP AND THEY ALL IGNORED HER.

I of course don't agree with what she did. But dropping your wife at inpatient facility then going golfing was very telling to me. If my bf was ever sick a recreation would be my last thought.

I have not been following on this case much. But I suffered through severe ppd and the things. I often thought that someone was going to break in my house and steal my child. Intrusive thoughts. I was so scared I would die and my kids would be so sad without me. She was seeking help. The pictures I see before and now. She has no life in her. I hate how the judge said no one can be a juror if they had postpartum depression. What about the people that don’t understand it either? Idk how this can be a fair trial

I think wine mom culture acts as a bandaid to the deeper issues mothers face. Carrying it all while carrying on. The systems and people around her failed her and she took the extreme way out. I wish more people had empathy, and that tells me they’ve been lucky enough to never experience pp depression, anxiety, ocd or psychosis. It also plays into why mothers can’t speak up in the first place and get the help they need, thus using a band aid (wine) as an accessible coping tool.

I think the mean moms are the ones that have also been unsupported and miserable in marriage but suffer through. They’re comparing their misery to her psychosis and covering it with their own resentment for staying.
