we audited and actually ran rtk — a free rust CLI that filters your coding agent's terminal output before it hits the model's context. built by patrick szymkowiak, apache-2.0, 76,169 stars (checked live today). we cloned rtk's own repo and measured it ourselves: `git log -n 10` came back at 5,804 bytes raw, 2,332 through rtk. a real 59.8% cut. listing src/ fell from 596 bytes to 80. the honest catch, straight from their own README: cutting bash output is NOT cutting your bill. your prompt, your history and the model's output tokens are all still charged in full. dont expect your AI bill to drop 90%. worth it if youre burning context on git/ls/grep spam. source: github.com/rtk-ai/rtk #ai #claudecode #devtools #rust #opensource
