one day it was dead and my asst manager was trying to do some calculations for end of month reporting she really didnt understand how to do. (older black woman, sweet as can be but didnt have an education beyond hs 40+ years earlier). i did. I had just gotten my associates degree in business and accounting. I sat there and did in 5 minutes what it took her an hour to do. she was thrilled. everytime after, she'd request to have me on her shift so we could do that switch. she took care of customers, her specialty. I took care of the paperwork, my specialty. then the store manager found out... and started having me do some of her accounting stuff too. DM and up never found out. left that job 8 months later when I got my first office job in my field that almost doubled my hourly rate. the three of us enjoyed that arrangement immensely. but that only worked because I had the education to back it up and it was agreed to by me.
