@purascans: Independent laboratory testing commissioned by a national health regulator has confirmed the presence of glyphosate — the herbicide the World Health Organization classifies as a probable human carcinogen — in the absorbent core of Pampers and other mainstream disposable diapers. The contamination isn't from the manufacturing process — it's carried in from the raw materials. A 2019 formal investigation by a national food and environmental health agency identified glyphosate, glyphosate metabolite AMPA, dioxins, furans, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tested disposable baby diapers — and independent consumer laboratory testing had previously identified the same contaminants in Pampers products by name. The source traces back to the plant-based raw materials used in the diaper core — cotton and cellulose pulp — both frequently treated with glyphosate during cultivation. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies glyphosate as Group 2A, probably carcinogenic to humans. California added glyphosate to its Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer in July 2017. Bayer, parent company of glyphosate manufacturer Monsanto, has paid more than $10 billion in US legal settlements over cases linking Roundup exposure to non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Diapers are worn against the perianal and genital skin — one of the most absorptive tissue areas of the human body — for 20 or more hours a day, across two to three years of infancy. The US has issued no equivalent regulatory action requiring manufacturers to test for or disclose these contaminants in diapers sold to American families. The label says "gentle." The absorbent core says glyphosate. Scanned with the Pura App
