@bjorndigre: Try to go 24 hours without thinking about stuff, not getting new stuff, not getting rid of old stuff, not the cleaning or repairing of stuff, not worrying if someone is going to steal your stuff. It is not healthy to have such a preoccupation with material possessions & not with our interpersonal relationships. How are your neighbors doing? When is the last time you called your mom? When is the last time someone took a genuine interest in your well being? When was the last time you gifted something just because you knew someone was in need? Being a full human being means you have a responsibility to show up with Trust, Respect, Reciprocity, Honesty, & Compassion. Otherwise we are just objects existing in a world of objects trying to accumulate more objects in competition with other objects. Your focus determines your reality. #economics #market #barter #money #gifting @Jonathan Peder Pedersen-OBrien

Sound cuts out but this is interesting. I wish we could go towards doing a gift economy instead of this awful capitalist system we have now, or even an economy where I have to give you enough chickens to equal one cow.

This is exactly the way I have been saying! Everyone loves what they do, everyone has an abundance of that thing. Everyone offers their abundance. Everyone takes what they need and everyone is taken care of.

It was about fulfilling needs and giving one another what they actually needed or maybe even wanted it sounds like. A simple care and investment in one’s community.

The sound cut out a few times. My friends and I used to operate like this when we wanted to do something. Whoever had money paid with the understanding everyone would take a turn when they could. Because it was just more fun with everyone.

newer theories of the origins of money is that it was a replacement not for barter but reparations to avoid bloodfeuds.

To learn more about the development of economies & money throughout history is recommend “Debt: The First 5000 years” by David Græber. To learn more about gift exchange economies and how they are created from observations of the natural world I’d highly recommend the book “The Serviceberry: Abundance & Reciprocity in the natural world” by Robin Wall Kimmerer

The idea a farmstead community would rely on everyone making their own food instead of contributing labor to a community farm as well solves this issue.
You lose chickens and the community garden is the influx of nessecary chickens, one person doesn't become acculamitory of exchanges from survival only good will and pure commerce like I have a good business or am just giving the community garden chickens.
