fibre lasts a lot longer than a GPU. there is still connections from the dot com bubble that are in use, the GPUs that were used when chatGPT launched are already dead and ruined

the Dot Com bubble also caused a rollout of network infrastructure construction that is still in use today. the data centers from the AI bubble are built using hardware with 3-5 year life expectancy.

The AI bubble bursting wouldn't be the same since more of the new AI models are open source so even if the companies close these models would still exist. That's why all the companies are signing the open AI agreement

The bubble is about finances not the actual product. Same with dot Com, it the was finances that popped. Same will happen with AI except worse because it's everywhere and so many are over invested

every single time I have to have a conversation about AI somebody brings up all of its useful applications, and while I am forced to concede on those it doesn't change that the general population does not need it. if scientists are using AI sparingly to get research data that would be otherwise difficult to duplicate, especially in instances of ethical ambiguity where you need the data, but don't want to risk the subject, I am in favor of ai. when Tommy wants to make a gif to leave on a social media post, I don't think a family of beavers needs to die over that
