I suspect that people in the tribe knew about the adoption and knew that they couldn’t do anything until the parents legally alienated your brother. So they’ve been waiting, but due to his age, they could not find him and you literally gave them the exact evidence they needed.

I did it. I’m adopted & found my Yurok tribe at 27. I did have a lot of info but still had to go to court & get my records released. I referenced ICWA .

I’m so glad you’re advocating for him - I don’t like the idea of disrupting a family adoption but the adoptive family has a moral duty to keep a child connected to their roots and extended family

When my mom was trying to get us registered (my grandpa denied his heritage so he never bothered) she went to the office on the rez with nothing but a name and miraculously a person in the office knew my great grandma and we were registered that day. us natives... especially the women... have a looooong memory.
