As an ER nurse, I’ll always remember the feeling of finding what we know is cancer (but can’t legally tell them) or watching someone who is AOx4 bleeding out. But that feeling gets a lot easier to deal with over time

Working in the ER really makes you appreciate being able to walk out of there and go home in a healthy body 🥲

Something I was told in school is “you’re with patients for the last moment where everything is still normal for them” and I think abt that quite frequently

I absolutely love getting to work in the ER but I’ll admit the one thing I hate is not knowing what happens to a patient after we get them stable enough to leave us 😓

Now you understand our frustration when floors including the ICUs give us push back for admissions, baby I just saw my 90th patient tonight and it’s not even 1am please take them 🫠

The worst ones are A/Ox4 and degrading so quickly to tubed, sedated and hella poor prognosis within an hr. It’s wild to me.

Perspective is literally everything. I’m a nuclear medicine tech and work in a lot of oncology. Lots of regular patients and time to build rapport, but I know before anyone how their treatment is responding. Can be real heartbreaking for sure

It’s mentally taxing when you’ve met the pt in the ED and imaging/labs/whatever comes back awful and have to wait for the doctor to tell them, but you’re talking to them in the mean time. They’ll ask what’s going on and you know they’re about to get an ICU admission but the doctor needs to be the one to tell them. And no ED-ICU beef we all do extremely hard things!!!

love hearing this perspective from an CVICU nurse, as an ER nurse I’m always kind of sad I can’t see the progress of a patient (hopefully) getting better after their terrible dx, that you guys at times see see in ICU. We should all be required to float once a month elsewhere 😂

Radiation oncology 🫶☢️🫶 very sobering, and wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. Best patients in the world.
