@crimewithdan0: In 1970, a 13-year-old girl known by the pseudonym Genie was rescued after authorities uncovered one of the most heartbreaking child abuse cases in American history. For more than a decade, she had been kept almost completely isolated from the outside world, spending much of her childhood restrained in a small room with little human contact. She was rarely spoken to, punished for making noise, and deprived of the love, attention, and stimulation every child needs to develop. When she was finally discovered, Genie was severely malnourished, weighed only about 59 pounds, struggled to walk, and displayed the developmental abilities of a very young child. She knew only a handful of words and was unable to communicate in full sentences. Her recovery soon became the focus of worldwide scientific interest. Researchers hoped her case could answer one of psychology's biggest questions: whether there is a critical period in childhood for learning language. Although Genie made remarkable progress by learning hundreds of new words and becoming more socially engaged, she never fully developed normal grammar or fluent speech. As funding for her care ended, Genie was moved through several foster homes, where reports suggested she experienced further neglect. Much of the progress she had made was eventually lost. Today, her identity and whereabouts remain private. Her story continues to be studied as both a landmark case in psychology and a reminder of the devastating effects that extreme isolation and child abuse can have on human development.#truecrime #viral #fyp #justice #xyzbca
